Petaluma - Who is Krampus, the goat like beast we see so often in recent Christmas celebrations? Carrying his basket, bells, chains, and ruten (bundle of birch switches), Krampus has come from the darkest side of antiquity and tradition, from faraway places like Austria, Bavaria, Croatia, Hungary, Slovakia, and Slovenia, sometimes accompanying Saint Nicholas, always determined to punish the wicked as we move into the darkest days of the year. Ring in the season and celebrate Krampusnacht with Copperfield's Petaluma as our resident weird fiction experts, Raymond Lawrason and Ross E. Lockhart, host an evening featuring the spookier side of Christmas. There will be stories, lore, crafts, and treats. Costumes are encouraged, and there may even be a traditional Krampuslauf (Krampus run) through the streets of Petaluma, should we have enough contestants. Saint Nicholas may even make an appearance!
