It’s true, we’ve been working with publishers all year to bring authors to Sonoma, Napa and Marin counties, and it seems this year everyone is coming. It may well be our best season ever in terms of the caliber and variety of authors. Here’s the overview of these ticketed and free events. Deemed the great American novelist by Time Magazine, Jonathan Franzen appears September 2 to talk about his new novel, Purity at the Santa Rosa High School Auditorium. He’ll be in conversation with Jane Ciabattari, writer, book columnist, and VP/Online of the National Book Critics Circle. With book purchase, tickets are $10. learn more
Award-winning chef, food writer, and PBS host, Ruth Reichl comes to the Raven Theater in Healdsburg on October 8. With the purchase of her new book My Kitchen Year: 136 Recipes That Saved My Life, food lovers may purchase $10 tickets to the event. Charlie Palmer’s Dry Creek Kitchen joins with Copperfield’s in hosting a pre-event reception at the Hotel Healdsburg featuring appetizers from the cookbook along with fine wine. Elvis Costello has produced a memoir that, like his music, is his uniquely his own, entitled Unfaithful Music and Disappearing Ink. Fans are invited to spend the evening with him on October 23 at the Napa Valley Performing Arts Center at the Lincoln Theater in Yountville, as he converses with Michael Krasny about his storied career in the music business and his lesser known personal life. The beloved teacher of spiritual wisdom and author of The Four Agreements, Don Miguel Ruiz appears in Sebastopol at Analy High School Auditorium on October 27 to talk about his newest discoveries as described in his new book, The Toltec Art of Life and Death: A Story of Discovery. Superstar of the crime fiction world, Elizabeth George will mix it up with her fans at A Banquet of Consequences Reception at the Flamingo Conference Resort and Spa in Santa Rosa on October 27. With the book purchase, admission to the reception featuring appetizers, no-host bar, book talk and signing is $15. learn more
Copperfield’s is pleased to host a Special Breakfast Event with Diana Nyad, the greatest long-distance swimmer in the world who completed the 110-mile shark-infested swim from Cuba to Florida at age 64. Nyad will appear on October 29 at the Hyatt Vineyard Creek Hotel and Spa in Santa Rosa. Tickets are $55 and include an inspirational talk by the author, breakfast and a copy of her new book, Find a Way. learn more
The author of Tuesdays with Morrie, Mitch Albom appears with his new novel The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto at Santa Rosa High School Auditorium on Thursday, November 19. With purchase of the book, tickets are $10 a person. learn more
Copperfield’s is throwing a Wicked Underground Halloween party on October 31, 8 - 11:30pm, at the Flamingo Conference Resort and Spa for those who love books, the musical Wicked, or dressing up. The featured author is Gregory Maguire, author of The Wicked Years series that went on to become one of the most successful Broadway musicals of all time. Touring with his new book After Alice which takes on Lewis Carol’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, attendees will find the costume options endless. Event includes music (dancing and singing), costume contests, author chat, and a book signing. Tickets are $20 with the purchase of a book.
In addition to these ticketed events, Copperfield’s hosts hundreds of free events each year. This season in our stores, readers can look forward to seeing Amy Stewart, Christopher Moore, Simon Winchester, Kay Ryan, Meg Waite Clayton, artist Tom Killion, and many others. The Brave New World series in Copperfield’s Petaluma store features authors of science fiction, speculative fiction, horror and fantasy includes William Gibson, Jim Butcher, and the crew from Wheel of Time, plus Jason Denzel.
