It’s hard to imagine a Book Buyer who has read more or done more for launching authors than Sheryl Cotleur. With 28 years in the book business, including working for some of the San Francisco Bay Area’s finest independent bookstores-- Cottage Bookshop, A Clean Well-Lighted Place for Books, Book Passage, and now Copperfield’s Books--Cotleur has what many readers would
consider a dream job.
Her passion is finding great books and sharing that information with the public and she reads prolifically to accomplish that. For instance, Paul Harding’s Tinkers was one of her bookstore discoveries and a year after helping launch the book locally, it received the Pulitzer in 2010.
Over the past four years, her role has expanded beyond the bookstore to include serving as a jurist for a number of ABA book awards, including the 2014, 2013, and 2010 Jurist Indie’s Choice Awards.
She holds her B.A. from Case Western Reserve and an M.F.A. from Kent State. She’s worked all parts of the bookstore before becoming a buyer and realizing it was her calling.
She currently serves as the front and backlist Adult Book Buyer for Copperfield’s Books which has seven stores in Sonoma, Marin, and Napa counties in San Francisco’s North Bay.
